AVS: USB

 Important

The secure switch range is mouse and keyboard only. The exception being AVSC1100 which has a special USB connection for a CAC reader.

Why do some keboards and mice not work?

The secure switches use a restricted USB format which means that only the boot image of a USB device is used. This means that any additional keys such as macros will not be enumerated to the secure switch and as such won't work.

This is the reason that some keyboards and mice won't work when connected to the secure switch as they do not have a boot image. Because of this they are never enumerated correctly and are unresponsive. They can still draw power from the switch as the device itself doesn't need to have completed enumeration for power draw and so the light of an optical mouse could be on (appears to work) but not actually be able to communicate with the switch at all.
