How to import Active Directory Users and Groups to AIM
This page is a guide on how to import Active Directory Users and Groups to AIM using your Domain Controller and LDAP filters.
Note
Importing Organisational Unit's without filters.
We can directly import the group pictured below without using any LDAP filters.
Step 1
Log into the AIM Web Browser Interface.
Once logged in, navigate to :- USERS tab > Active Directory > Settings.
Step 2
Enable Active Directory on AIM. You can find a guide for this on our wiki: Enabling Active Directory
The example below shows a network with a single Domain Controller. If you wish to connect an LDAPS server, use ldaps://<DOMAIN/IP>.
Step 3
Again, navigate to:- USERS > Active Directory.
From here we can specify whether to import only the users from within an OU, or include users contained in groups within the OU.
Tick the required boxes.
Step 4
Click Preview to review the users to be imported.
Green + symbols indicate users that will be imported. Red - symbols indicate users that will be ignored upon importation.
After review, click Save & Sync to import users. Alternatively, click Cancel to return to the previous page and edit entries.
Importing users from multiple Organisational Unit's using LDAP filters.
Microsoft provide a guide to using the LDAP Syntax, which can be found at the following link. LDAP Filters Syntax
In this example we have created a group called Adder KVM Group under the default Users OU.
The group contains users from two OU's, Org1 and Org2.
Step 5
Following on from Step 2 in the section above, navigate to :- USERS > Active Directory.
Here we are going to import the group Adder KVM Group which falls under the OU Users.
To import only the group required we are going to use an LDAP filter.
Step 6
Click Preview to review the users to be imported.
Green + symbols indicate users that will be imported. Red - symbols indicate users that will be ignored upon importation.
We can now see one user from Org1 and one from Org 2 have been filtered for import.
After review, click Save & Sync to import users.
